Ranaghat Animal Welfare Trust (RAWT) is a dedicated animal welfare organization based in Notungram, Mathpara (Picnic Spot), Ranaghat, Nadia, West Bengal, India. We are committed to rescuing, treating, rehabilitating, and providing lifelong care to injured, abandoned, disabled, and elderly street animals, especially dogs who have nowhere else to go.
Our mission is simple: To ensure that no helpless animal is left to suffer alone.
Every day, our team and volunteers work tirelessly to rescue animals in distress, provide emergency medical treatment, conduct anti-rabies vaccination and sterilization programs, educate communities about responsible animal care, and offer permanent shelter to animals who cannot survive on the streets.
Whether it’s a puppy abandoned after an accident, an elderly dog left behind because of age, or a paralyzed animal requiring lifelong support, we believe every life deserves compassion, dignity, and love.
Ranaghat Animal Welfare Trust was founded with a simple belief: every animal deserves kindness, regardless of age, disability, or circumstance.
Across our streets, countless animals are ignored because they are injured, abandoned, old, or disabled. Many are hit by vehicles, suffer from untreated illnesses, or are left behind simply because caring for them requires time and commitment.
What began as individual rescue efforts has grown into a dedicated shelter where vulnerable animals receive food, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and lifelong care. Today, our shelter is home to more than 30 permanently disabled and special-needs dogs, each with a unique story of survival and resilience.
Our mission is to build a compassionate community where every rescued animal receives the care, protection, and respect they deserve. At RAWT, we work every day to:

Our rescue team responds to reports of injured, sick, abandoned, and distressed street animals. Every rescue is treated with urgency, compassion, and professional care.
Many rescued animals arrive with severe injuries, fractures, infections, paralysis, or chronic illnesses. We provide veterinary treatment, medication, wound care, rehabilitation, and long-term recovery support.
Some animals can never return to the streets. They become permanent members of our family, receiving nutritious food, clean bedding, medical care, and unconditional love for the rest of their lives.
Rabies prevention protects both animals and people. We regularly organize vaccination drives to improve community health and reduce the spread of rabies.
Through Animal Birth Control initiatives, we help reduce the stray animal population humanely while improving the overall health and welfare of street dogs.
We believe lasting change begins with education. Our awareness programs encourage compassion, responsible pet ownership, and peaceful coexistence between humans and animals.
Not everyone can adopt a dog at home, but everyone can help. Our virtual adoption program allows supporters to sponsor the monthly care of rescued animals, helping provide food, medicines, and shelter.
Every resident of our shelter has a story. Dogs like Aduri, Kali, Table, Joli, Galtobra, Payesh, and Mili may never walk again, but they greet every new day with hope and wagging tails.
Gunja and Deepchand remind us that losing a limb does not mean losing the joy of life.
Our beloved seniors, Maharaja and Nayan, may be blind and frail, but they continue to teach us the meaning of trust, patience, and unconditional love.
Then there are inspiring success stories like Lalu, Rani, and Mani, who overcame paralysis and learned to walk again because someone chose not to give up on them.
These animals are our family.
Running an animal shelter requires continuous care, medical attention, and financial support. Every month, we spend approximately ₹70,000 on:
